TOPIC: GENUINE REPENTANCE

TEXT: PSALM 51: 1-19

GENUINE REPENTANCE is the total change of mind and action (proverbs 28:13)
GENUINE REPENTANCE is the foundation of our work for god (Mathew 3:2 chapter 4:17)
GENUINE REPENTANCE is the key to spiritual growth.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF GENUINE REPENTANCE:
  • It attracts mercy and forgiveness from God.(1 kings 21:24-29, psalm 51:1-2)
  • It releases the power to overcome that sin (psalm 51:14)
  • It is the key to God’s presence
  • It brings restoration blessing (psalm 51:15-18, Mathew 21:12-14)

SIGNS OF GENUINE REPENTANCE/FALSE REPENTANCE
  • Saying sorry but making excuses i.e. sign of false repentance (1 Samuel 15:20-23)
  • Showing ramous but not forsaking the sin
  • Physically stopping a sin but inwardly desiring
  • Physically stopping a sin but not able to condemn it  
  • Appearing to reject evil but accepting the material benefits
  • Unwillingness to make amends where someone possibly can (Luke 19:8-9)

It was later conquered by Cyrus the Persian and then Alexander the great. The conquests reduced sardis to ruins in AD 17.
